New library of TPH reference chromatograms available
Apr 28, 2014
When analysing environmental samples for TPH (Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons) the report normally consists of only the concentration of oil (hydrocarbons) in the sample. However, there are additional information available from raw data. Information about type of oil is available by comparing the chromatogram from the analysis with a reference chromatogram. Such information can be very useful in determining the source of contamination. In addition information about presence of natural occurring compounds, falsely elevating the analytical result, can be obtained in a similar manner and measures can be taken by the laboratory before a re-analysis. In some cases it may also be possible to get an indication if an oil spill is recent or dates further back in time.
